Amanda Randolph

As the first African-American performer to star in a regularly scheduled network television show, appearing in DuMont's; The Laytons. Amanda was an American actress, singer and musician.


Born in Louisville, Kentucky in September 1896, Randolph began earning extra money playing the piano and organ in Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 14. In 1919, she moved to Cincinnati, where she recorded jazz and blues music for the Vocalstyle company of Cincinnati while working as a musician in Ohio's Lyric Theatre.


Hailing from Louisville [pronounced LUUV-el] is named after King Louis XVI of France and was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark, making it one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachians. Louisville is the largest city in the commonwealth of Kentucky.
