Olivia Atwood

Olivia Atwood, new emerging contemporary Christian artist from Somerset, Kentucky.

We recently sat down with Olivia and had the opportunity to ask a few questions to get to know the artist better. We absolutely love her story and wanted to share it with you all.

So, how did you get into doing your own music? "My dad is an avid musician and encouraged us to cultivate music and singing at an early age". Do you remember where your first performance was? "My first gig was at the McNeil Voice Studio Recital in 2017 at The Carnegie Hall here is Somerset". That is awesome and that in itself is quite an accomplishment. As a new artist, there can be many ups and downs, is there something in your journey so far that you are most proud of? "Yes, writing, recording and producing my first single, This Is My Home (2023)". That is great! Of course the journey is not always positive, has there been something that you've struggled with and how you are coping or how did you overcome it? "In 2019, I went through a season of discouragement and struggling to connect with the heart of what I was singing. I was able to overcome through honesty, vulnerability, and the encouragement of my family. I now carry that story as a reminder of why I do what I do". That is understandable and very relatable. We believe your songs will resonate with so many and we are excited to see where your music takes you!

Somerset, Kentucky was first settled in 1798 by Thomas Hansford and received its name from Somerset County, New Jersey, where some of the early settlers had formerly lived. Somerset became the Pulaski County seat in 1801, and was incorporated as a city in 1887. A Civil War battle was fought in January 1862 at Mill Springs (now "Nancy") about 8 miles west of Somerset, and a museum is at the site. In addition to the several artisan markets and vibrant music scene, nearby Lake Cumberland is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world (101 miles in length, with an average depth of 85 feet). Somerset is also near Cumberland Falls and the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. We encourage you to visit www.seesomerset.com & www.lctourism.com to plan your adventure today!
